Two Birds

The newly dubbed "GatorAle" (TM Jessica Baker, sorry Coke executives), a perfect drink post-run or anytime you'd like to have a couple beers without getting dehydrated.  I recommend approx. 1/3 gatorade, 2/3 beer.

Neglected

It was a beautiful late spring day today, and I didn't even get out for a run.  I can only blame myself.

Athletics Awards Banquet

A picture of the XC seniors (minus Tommy who was already studying), including Charlie Meade -- winner of the prestigious Bridges Award, given to Emory's most outstanding all-around athlete.  I never realized they were all this tall.

Soggy UAA

The UAA Champion 4x800 team of Alex (who also won the open 800), Ellwood, Jason, and Kevin.  Hopefully Alex's mom has a picture where he looks happy.  Amazingly we didn't have any delays either day because of weather.  Which is not the same as saying it was nice.  

And a big congratulations goes out to the women's team -- bringing home the team title for the first time in over 10 years, thanks to a dominating performance in the sprints and huge upset performances from Flink and Fenn in both in the steeple and 5k!

1 I Should

Ever since college I've alternated reading a book I want to read with a book I think I SHOULD read.  Since my last choice was a comic book based on a Stephen King novel, I figured I needed to head into serious SHOULD territory with this pick.

National Record Store Day

My new favorite holiday is National Record Store Day.  Unfortunately not pictured here is the Springsteen single he put out in honor of the event.  Either Decatur CD didn't get any, or they sold out in the first 40 minutes before I got there.  If the guy with the bumper sticker that said "My Other Car is a '69 Chevy w/ a 396" bought the last one, then I'm okay with that.

Running on the moon

With one week to go before conference, we decided to have some of the guys do their tempo run on the Alter G to reduce the impact.  Well, that, and just to have a lot of fun playing around with the Alter G.

Drive Time

This is my car, which I like a lot.  The problem is that I spent way too much time in it today.  After getting to Emory early this morning and getting all my tax paperwork in order to mail out, I realized that I left my W-2's and 1099's at my house.  And, yes, I'm aware of the irony of this given yesterday's post.

Side note:  I have had my car for 5 years now, and plan on keeping it at least another 5.  So, it seems like it's high time that I officially have a name for it.  I'll be accepting suggestions in the comments section.  Thank you in advance for your creative insights.

April 14th ... looks like someone's ahead of the game!  (sadly I'm not even being sarcastic)

Steady State

Didn't feel great for the last 1.5 of my steady state run.  But it did feel good to actually run hard on my own volition (rather than just sprinting to try and run with the guys).

Little Five

A beautiful Sunday in Little Five Points -- where there is always something interesting going on.  Like this guy (who didn't want his face in the picture) working on a mural.  Also, a successful trip to Wax 'n Facts.  I've accepted the fact that I'm not alternative enough to live there, but I sure do like to visit.

Ryan's

A southern-style all-you-can-eat buffet that's a track team tradition ... for some reason.  Unfortunately I couldn't get a picture of the 300+ pound man with a salad that was completely hidden from view by a flood of ranch dressing.

Craft Beer night at Ship & Anchor, featuring Abita.  Turns out it's the oldest and largest craft brewery in the Southeast.  And the beer was good ... even the Strawberry beer.

Home sweet home

Jesus rose on Easter Sunday, but I barely did this year.  A long night of sleep and a nap were both necessary after a long weekend of meets.

And now for something completely different

So Jacksonville St. didn't have perfect weather, great fields, or a big-meet atmosphere, but it did have one thing Duke didn't -- a calypso band!  And, no, I have no idea why they were there.  But it was kinda fun.

Next stop ...

PR city.  Kevin and Ellwood dropped 4 seconds each in the 1500, Charlie dropped 4 in the 5k, Decker a ridiculous 16 in the 5k (now second all-time at Emory), and Paul 20+ in the 10k for a new Emory record.  Always makes the exhausting, through-the-night drive worth it.

On the road again

After spring break and two straight weeks of home meets, it was time to load up the ol' 15 passengers and get out of town.
