Turns out Faulkner puts me to sleep really fast, so I moved on to something more stimulating.  Get it?  Har har

9-9-9 Challenge

Jared prepares to take down the 9-9-9 Challenge -- 9 beers, 9 hot dogs, 9 innings.  3500+ calories and 8+ pounds later, he was victorious.  And, actually, he even made it look easy -- finishing in the bottom of the 8th inning.  It was kind of amazing.

No better place to be on a Wednesday afternoon in Atlanta than Sweetwater brewery (started by Coloradans, by the way).  Also marked the first time I could go grab a beer with the newest alums of the Emory cross country program.

Alex Robin post-800; smoothie already in hand.  Alex was recently promoted to "Assistant to the Assistant Coach" by virtue of the fact that he will be in Atlanta next year and will actually have free time.

Post-race with the 5k crew ... last collegiate race for them.

Disaster Movie

Here we are trapped with approx. three thousand other people trying to get to our gate through the walkways under the Atlanta airport.  Apparently smoke on one of the trains shut everything down (including security) for awhile.  We missed our flight, but also got to pretend to be in a disaster movie.  So I think it's a fair trade.

Ups and Downs

Some meets everything goes right ... others you need a new stopwatch.  The guys all ran hard, something was just off.

Midway

Lots of Navy vets in the Midway airport today -- plus an USS FRD reunion at our hotel.  Decker got into the spirit.

Track parade

Lots of little kids this week at All-Comers which made for a slow meet, but an especially fun one to watch.  Did they have this in Colorado Springs when I was growing up?

Graduation Day

A beautiful morning, lots of fun pageantry (here is the members of the 50 yr alumni group), and a speech by the Governator.  

Watchmen

They're not kidding about "Ultimate Cut" ... almost three and a half hours, and I still could have watched more.

Grad party

Grad party with almost all the track seniors in attendance.  I used the "antique" setting to emphasize the nostalgic quality.

Chasing Times

After the conference meet, it's all about running fast.  So basically if you hear there is going to be a fast race somewhere, you throw the kids in the car and get to the meet.  

It's AWESOME.  

It feels more like what old-school track and field should be about.  And in this case, it worked out great with Alex blasting a new PR of 1:52.63 -- a drop of 1.65 seconds and fast enough to put him 14th in the country heading into the weekend meets.  Next we get to head to Chicago to see if he can run faster!

Final shift

The last load of towels that I will fold in the equipment room this school year.

Cinco de Mayo

A little salsa on my scrambled eggs was as close as I came to celebrating Cinco de Mayo this year.  I propose automatic deadline extensions for all work projects anytime there's a holiday that revolves around bars.

All-Comers

All-Comers meets are by far the most fun meets of the year because you get to watch little kids run track -- even if this kid is clearly cheating.  Unfortunately my pictures of the 3 year old racing in a Spider-Man costume didn't come out well.  Hopefully he'll be back next week.

Home cooking

From the "whatever's left in the fridge" school of cuisine:  flatbread, crushed garlic, pepperoni, and goat cheese.  Jared said his was good, but mine had way too much garlic.

Humid

For the first really hot and humid day of the year, it was necessary to bring out the big guns (Turbo Force!).  Not sure it helped, though.

Summer movie prep

Since nothing but sequels will come out this summer, I figured I should at least refresh my memory as to the plot of the originals.
