On Writing

If you haven't read it (or just haven't in awhile), I highly recommend it.  Very inspiring, and makes me wish I made time to write.

Noir

The fact that I keep falling asleep while reading it before bed in no way indicates how much I'm enjoying this book.  Because it's awesome.  Based on a very limited sample of this and "Grapes of Wrath," apparently the 1930's produced my kind of writing.

Josh Ritter

Great day for music:  Marcus was seeing Pat Green in Portland and Jared and I drove to Greenville for Josh Ritter.  Another great concert and a fun crowd.

9-9-9 Challenge

Jared prepares to take down the 9-9-9 Challenge -- 9 beers, 9 hot dogs, 9 innings.  3500+ calories and 8+ pounds later, he was victorious.  And, actually, he even made it look easy -- finishing in the bottom of the 8th inning.  It was kind of amazing.

Last Man at Agnes Scott

It's a crappy picture, but a great talk.  Elizabeth Gilbert was at Agnes Scott to give a reading from her new book "Committed" (which I mistakenly told someone was called "Shackled"), and to answer questions from the (heavily female) audience.  I've actually never read "Eat, Pray, Love" which is by far her most famous book (and the cause of the audience gender gap), but I did read and enjoy "The Last American Man" about Eustace Conway.  She was funny, self-deprecating, and inspirational -- definitely glad I went.
